Join us at the Minnesota State Capitol to learn how to speak out, Girl Scout! It's almost time to celebrate Girl Scout's 112th birthday and to honor the long history of girls in advocacy and Girl Scout's legacy, we are excited to celebrate at Day at the Capitol on March 9! You will explore the historic Capitol building, learn about civics and government, meet volunteers from Minnesota Women’s Lawyers, and practice your advocacy skills. This is an open-house-style event where you can move at your own pace. This is a great opportunity for Girl Scouts who are looking to make a difference in their communities. Attending this event will help prepare Girl Scouts for completing a take-action project or a Highest Award!
NEW this year: 9-12 grade Girl Scouts can join us for a special panel of BIPOC advocates who are making amazing changes in their communities! Hosted by Girl Scouts River Valley’s CEO Marisa C. Williams, this is a unique panel experience you won’t want to miss! We’ll be joined by Jules Porter, a lawyer and CEO of a company focused on representation in video games, Alex Ang, a member of a national mental health board and social media advocate, Roxy Gonzalez, a partner at a major law firm who advocates for civil liberties, and Aurin Chowdhury, a Minneapolis City Council member and grassroots organizer.
Here’s what the families of Girl Scouts said about last year’s Day at the Capitol programming:
“Our Girl Scouts LOVED the activities. It was a great interactive way to learn and celebrate community!”
“We loved the opportunity to speak at the Capitol about what we care about and to learn how a bill becomes a law.”
“We enjoyed exploring issues, voting, and writing our legislators”
Learn more or register by February 29. We hope to see you at the Capitol on March 9!
