Start a Troop
Show Girl Scouts the limitless possibilities ahead of them.
By leading a troop—that is, a group of Girl Scouts—you’ll have a huge impact. You’ll guide them on their journey to try new things, build forever friendships, take on adventures, dream big, and have fun doing it. Along the way, you’ll discover your own leadership style and build connections in your community. With training, meeting plans, and a whole Girl Scout support team behind you, you’ll be prepared to become the best troop leader you can be.
New troop leaders and their Girl Scout’s first year of membership isfree!
Interested in starting a troop, but have a few questions
first? Schedule a call with a member of our staff to
learn more about what it means to be a troop leader.
Ready to get started? Follow these three steps:
Step 1: Register and complete a background check.
Complete the Troop Leader Interest Form and connect with our staff to finish up your registration, confirm troop details (like meeting day, time, and location), and complete a background check.
Criminal background checks are required for all adult Girl Scout volunteers every three years. There is no cost to volunteers to complete a background check, and they do not include a credit check or social security number.
Join Girl Scouts River Valleys staff and a group of other new leaders starting on their journey together. Together, we’ll build a community of support and share the resources available to you. From troop meeting plans to safety guidelines to finance information, we’ve got you covered.
Step 3: Fill your troop.
Invite new Girl Scouts and volunteers to join your troop! As soon as your troop is active, it will be listed in our searchable online troop catalog. Use our fillable fliers and social media posts to build your team. All troops need two unrelated, background checked adults.
