BIPOC troops center the unique experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Our Mentored Troops and ConnectZ activities are predominately, but not exclusively, led by BIPOC adults who care deeply about making a difference in the lives of youth and in their communities.
With a Girl Scout BIPOC troop, your Girl Scout will be supported by mentors and youth who look like them and participate in culturally relevant programming to affirm and celebrate their identity and experiences.

Why Join a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Troop?
We know that for some families it is important that their kid’s cultural identity is centered in the activities they participate in and the leaders they engage with. Through culturally relevant programming, children’s unique identities and experiences are affirmed and celebrated. BIPOC troops are spaces within Girl Scouts where communities come together to create that safe space for BIPOC youth.

Learn About Mentored Troops
Mentored Troops are volunteer led troops that intentionally uplift the unique experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth. They encourage a sense of belonging and sisterhood. In their first year as a Mentored Troop, each Girl Scout receives a one-year membership and uniform at no cost. In addition, each Mentored Troop receives startup funds to support their troop’s activities.
Why Start a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Troop?
Representation matters. Providing BIPOC youth with role models and mentors that look like them can have a tremendous impact on their life. By seeing, interacting with, and learning from leaders of color, they too can see themselves as a leader. To provide these life-changing experiences for Girl Scouts, we need you—yes, you—to join us as a Mentored Troop leader. Mentored Troop leaders receive one year of 1:1 mentoring from a Girl Scouts River Valleys staff.
Learn About ConnectZ
ConnectZ aims to make it easy for youth to participate in Girl Scouts, providing connection and community through culturally responsive, youth-led leadership activities. ConnectZ programs are led by Girl Scouts River Valleys staff and serve predominately, but not exclusively, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth. To eliminate access barriers, activities are conveniently held at local schools or organizations and programming is free. There is no cost for membership, uniforms, or programmatic experiences, like camp. ConnectZ is available at select partner sites each year.
