Frequently Asked Questions
What are Council Program Events?
Girl Scouts River Valleys staff offer fun and engaging programs so members can learn new skills, take part in unique experiences, and connect with Girl Scouts across the River Valleys council area. Event categories include Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, Outdoors, and STEM. Our Council also offers volunteer trainings and special events exclusive to Girl Scouts members.
How do I find these opportunities?
Our Events Search is the best place to find upcoming events. Events are listed in order of the date that they occur, but keep in mind, most events have registration deadlines of 1-2 weeks prior to the event. New events are added as they become available, so check back often for new opportunities.
Can events accommodate Girl Scouts with disabilities, allergies, or other specific needs?
Girl Scouts River Valleys offers a wide variety of events. Accommodations for each event are different due to the unique nature of each program. We can provide reasonable accommodation for our events if we are provided information at least one week before the event’s start date. Please list any accommodations needed while registering for an event or email girlscouts@girlscoutsrv.org.
Common accommodations include, but are not limited to, sign language interpreters, modified learning materials, allergy-safe snacks, and more. We’d be happy to discuss the details of the event and venue to be sure that Girl Scouts can be included.
Gluten-free and nut-free snack options are provided at all program events where snacks are provided. Additional food accommodations (such as vegan or vegetarian) can generally be accommodated given a one-week notice.
Physical requirements should be listed in the full event description (for example: to be able to walk a certain distance, be able to ride a bike, etc.). Specific accessibility information for each program (such as location of handicapped parking) will be included in pre-event emails that you will receive approximately five days before the start of the event.
Girl Scouts are encouraged to attend program events that match their learning abilities. We often can accommodate grade exception requests for this reason by calling 800-845-0787 to register.
How do I register for an event?
Using the Events Search, click on the title of the event you would like to register to attend.
Select Register Now within the event posting to be re-directed to registration for your event. Add a spot to your cart using the + button then log intoyour MyGS account.
Hint: New families can click “forgot password” to create a login.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete registration. You can pay in full or the minimum deposit to hold your spot.
How do I pay for events?
All events have a minimum deposit. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferrable, and full payment is due at the time of registration close (approx 30 days prior to camp sessions and 7 days prior to events).
Payments can be made via credit or debit card in your gsEvent account.
If you are planning to request financial assistance, please pay the minimum deposit with a credit card and select Financial Aid as a payment type. After registering, submit your financial assistance application.
If you are planning to pay using program credits (Cookie Credits, Fall FUNds, or Juliette Program Credits), please pay the minimum deposit with a credit card and select Program Credits as a payment type. Submit the Program Credit Redemption Form to apply a Girl Scout’s program credit to a camp or program event registration.
Can I cancel and receive a refund for an event?
The deposit from your cancelled event cannot be transferred, nor refunded. To receive a refund, less the non-transferable/non-refundable deposit, we must receive your cancellation notice by the posted cancellation deadline (30 days prior to the program start date). To cancel your registration, submit the Events & Camp Cancellation Form. See our full Camp and Event Registration and Cancellation Policy.
In case of last minute cancellations, emergencies, and illness, please email girlscouts@girlscouts.org to let us know so we adequately prepare for the event.
What if the event I want to register for is full? Do you keep a waitlist?
Girl Scouts River Valleys does not keep a waitlist for events. Please check back on occasion to see if there have been any cancellations.
Who can attend an event? Can my sibling come along?
Any currently registered member of Girl Scouts may participate in events offered to their current grade or age level. Girl Scouts may participate individually or as part of a troop.
Siblings or other non-member guests are not permitted at events unless otherwise stated in the event description.
What are the adult/youth ratios? Do adults need to stay?
Leaders and other adults must follow Safety Activity Checkpoints for proper youth/adult ratios for all activities. Troop leaders and chaperones are required to stay at the event (unless otherwise stated in the event description) and are responsible for the supervision of their own troop. Adults may be asked to help with various parts of a program.
If I can’t attend, can another Girl Scout go instead?
Program event deposits are non-transferable. A new participant will need to register for the program and will be required to pay the minimum deposit for their new session.
The fees paid by the cancelling participant, except the deposit, can be transferred to the remaining balance of the new participant’s registration.
How will I receive confirmation of my registration?
An order confirmation email will be sent upon registration to the purchaser and the participant confirming your spot.
You can also view all events you are registered to attend by logging into MyGS and clicking My Account, then My Events Dashboard.
A detailed pre-event email will be sent to the purchaser outlining event logistics approximately five days prior to the event.
