Archery Basics Facilitator Certification Training – Archery basics facilitator training is required to lead a beginner archery activity for youth at a Girl Scout River Valleys' camps. You will learn about range safety and setup, shooting steps and equipment. This training is valid for three years. Archery facilitators must be 18 years or older and have had prior experience with archery. View upcoming adult trainings.
First Aid and CPR Training - Current safety requirements for activities taking place where EMS is less than 30 minutes away. A Wilderness First Aider is required to be present for activities where EMS is more than 30 minutes away. Red Cross certified Girl Scout River Valleys volunteers provide Red Cross First Aid and CPR trainings as well as Wilderness First Aid trainings. Learn more.
Kitchen Safety Training - This volunteer lead training certifies any volunteer to use a camp commercial kitchen. This is not a food-safety training, but an overview of camp kitchen appliances and safe-usage guidelines. Reach out to girlscouts@girlscoutsrv.org to request this training at the nearest Girl Scouts River Valleys camp property.
Low Ropes Facilitator Certification Training – This training offers opportunities for troop/groups to participate in group initiative games and low course challenge elements. In this 7-hour course learn how to facilitate the ropes course experience safely and properly. You’ll learn about group name games, ice-breakers, initiatives, trust, spotting, and the elements on the course as well as how to debrief the entire experience. The course also includes a facilitator guide. This training will allow facilitators to be able to use any Girl Scouts River Valleys low ropes course. Low ropes facilitators must be 18 years or older. Small Water Craft Safety Certification Training - This training is the current safety requirement for a canoe trip leader. Learn the skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to canoe emergencies, and gain the knowledge to assist a troop in planning and implementing a canoe outing. This certification covers flat water canoeing and is valid for three years. It will also allow you to use kayaks at our camp properties. Please note this is not a canoeing skills class and participants must pass a swimming test and have basic canoe experience prior to participating. View upcoming adult trainings.
Undernight Adventure for Adults - Prepare for your first overnight with this training geared to the volunteer with little or no experience cooking outdoors or tent camping, or for someone who wants a refresher. Learn essential outdoor cooking skills including fire building methods, charcoal and camp stove cooking, outdoor dishwashing and sanitation methods as covered in safety activity checkpoints. Learn the steps of planning a simple overnight adventure with Girl Scouts sleeping in tents. Understand what gear is needed for a trip as well as how to set up and care for a tent. You'll also discover the fun of teaching knots and map reading and other outdoor activities. Undernight Adventures contains many of the components of the Girls Sleep Out and Cook Out training. Girl Scouts Sleep In Training - Learn to walk your Girl Scouts through the process of planning and preparing for overnights, including required procedures and forms. Additional topics include Girl Scout readiness, progression, group living skills, and safety guidelines for fireplace fires. You will also become familiar with Girl Scouts River Valleys’ properties and policies, safety activity checkpoints, and "Leave No Trace" principles.
Girl Scouts Sleep Out Training – Learn how to guide Girl Scouts in planning a one- or two-night adventure sleeping in tents. Build on the skills from the self-study "Girl Scouts Sleep In" training and gain new skills related to program ideas, planning, safety and addressing environmental concerns related to outdoor tenting. After this training, you will understand what gear is needed for an overnight and how to use and care for tents. Use the Outdoor Leader Facilitator Guide to teach your troop volunteers.
Girl Scouts Cook In - This gsLearn module or unit of learning is for volunteers who are planning to cook indoors with their Girl Scouts. In this training, you will learn to walk your Girl Scouts through the process of safely preparing food using no-cook or indoor cooking methods. Additional topics include techniques for Girl Scout-led budgeting and shopping for groceries, planning menus, following safety guidelines, and making healthy food choices.
Girl Scouts Cook Out - In this gsLearn module or unit of learning you’ll learn essential outdoor cooking skills including fire building methods, charcoal and camp stove cooking, outdoor dishwashing and sanitation methods. Once complete, you’ll be able to enjoy cooking meals using different fuel sources and equipment safely. Use the Outdoor Leader Facilitator Guide to teach your troop volunteers.
Campfire Fun: Fire Safety and Tips - A gsLearn module or unit of learning for volunteers who want to get their troop outside for a campfire, but don't have a lot of experience or don't know where to start! We will introduce the Girl Scout outdoor progression, cover important safety guidelines, and provide tips for having your first campfire with your troop.
S’mores and More: Intro to Outdoor Cooking - A gsLearn module or unit of learning for volunteers who have mastered fire building and are interested in outdoor cooking. In this training, we will cover the Girl Scout outdoor progression, important safety guidelines, and provide tips for having your first simple cookout with your troop. We recommend completing the Campfire Fun module prior to completing this training
