Grades 6-12: Do you want to make a difference in your community but aren't sure where to start? This is the event for you! Join lobbyists from Momentum Advocacy to learn how to write bills and how laws are created and passed. Come explore how youth activists (like you!) can impact policies in the U.S., and learn tangible ways to make your voice heard in government. Girl Scouts will work in groups to draft a bill about a cause that matters to them, then receive real-time feedback from professional lobbyists on how you can make it pass. Adults will learn how to empower their Girl Scouts to bring these bills to their legislators and advocate for them to be passed!
If you plan to attend Girl Scout Day at the Capitol, this Advocacy Training is a great way to prepare and start reflecting on causes that you care about. Troops and individual Girl Scouts might even have the chance to present their draft bills to legislators at DATC!
This is a great event for troops that want to work together to draft a bill. Girl Scouts who do not attend with a troop or large group are still encouraged to attend and will be assigned a group of other individual Girl Scouts to work with.
Included: Snack
Adult/Youth Ratio:Adult chaperones are required to register and attend with youth members. Please limit adult registration and attendance to 1-2 adults for every 10 youth.
