Girl Scouts River Valleys' new Swim to Learn program aims to equip 2th to 12th grade girls with life-saving water safety skills and swimming fundamentals, with the focus on serving predominately BIPOC communities in North Minneapolis. In partnership with V3 Sports, this seven-week program provides an inclusive, safe space for girls in Minneapolis to overcome barriers in aquatic safety, fostering confidence and resilience!

No Girl Scout membership is required! Please register to the Older Team (meeting on Thursday mornings) if currently in Grades 9-12; or to the Younger Team (meeting on Sunday afternoons) if the swimmer is currently in Grades 2-8.
Each swimmer will receive a swim starter kit with a few swim essentials: a swim cap, goggles and a water bottle!  

Adults: At least one adult for up to 10 youth must attend.  Adults will have a space to sit in the lobby and can enjoy Soul Bowl Restaurant attached to the lobby. Blinds to the pool will be closed for the privacy of children and those of varying religious backgrounds. 

Information:

  • Location: V3 sports complex- 701 Plymouth Ave. North, Minneapolis, MN 55411 
  • 7 sessions, 1 session a week on Thursday afternoons 
  • Begins Thursday June 12th-Thursday July 31st (skipping Thursday June 19th and Thursday July 3rd) 
  • Time: 10:00am -11:00 am 
  • 1 adult requiredfor up to 10 youth (ex: parent, para, teacher, caregiver, legal guardian, etc)  
  • Each swimmer must bring a signed waiver to the first day

V3 has offered to lend swimsuits to those who do not own one. These will be available at each swim lesson to use and return. Sizes vary from youth to adult sizes. Here is the sizing chart for reference: https://reddiset.com/pages/female-speedo-size-charts. Swimmers are encouraged to swim in clothing that respects their needs and beliefs. Leggings and long-sleeved shirts are allowed for those who need it.

What to Bring: 

  • Towel (maybe) 
  • Swim starter kit (will be given out the first day!) 
  • Waiver signed by parent 
  • Shoes for outside of the pool 
  • Change of clothes for after the pool (and if swimsuit will be borrowed) 
  • Bag for wet clothes if bringing your own swimsuit
