Bike Club

Girl Scouts River Valleys Bike Club is a summer healthy living program designed to build confidence in biking and inspire kids to include biking in their everyday lives. The five-week program teaches skills in bike advocacy, safety, maintenance, rules of the road, ride preparations and route planning. Each session will also include a group ride.

Quick Facts

Grades: Grades 2-8 (Grade groups vary by location)
Time Commitment: One evening per week for 1.5-2 hours
Season Dates: Week of July 11 through week of August 15 (Dates may vary from club to club.)
Where: Each club is based in a different city/town within the council area. Registrants will be notified of meeting locations on a weekly basis.
Member Price per Girl Scout: $50 (Includes Bike Club t-shirt and fun patch)
Member Price per Adult: $10 (Includes Bike Club t-shirt)

Important Notes

  • Participants must be able to ride without training wheels.
  • Participants must bring their own bike, helmet and water bottle to each meeting and be able to ride without training wheels.
  • Should a session be canceled due to weather the make-up date will occur around the middle of August.
  • Aligning with updated COVID-19 guidelines, we are allowing additional adult registrations as space allows.

Note: Volunteer-led clubs receive support from Girl Scouts River Valleys staff including t-shirts and a stipend for expenses.

Checklist for Leading a Successful Bike Club
  • Minimum of 15 participants per club; Maximum 0f 25 participants per club

  • Ensure availability from July–August of four reliable adult volunteers to join each weekly session and chaperone. Two of the volunteers must have experience biking in their community and/or bike trails.

  • Plan to facilitate lessons in bike advocacy, safety, maintenance, rules of the road, ride preparations and route planning. Girl Scouts River Valleys provides lesson plans! 

  • It helps if you can connect with a local bike coalition, community or club in your area. They may assist with educating your group and help identify safe biking routes in town.
