Over the past several days, the Supreme Court has issued decisions on significant court cases that do not align with our commitment to uplift and empower every Girl Scout. We stand against these decisions and acknowledge their harm and devastating impacts on those in our community who have been oppressed. Our hearts break for the Girl Scouts whose futures are being further limited by gutting affirmative action and for the families in the Girl Scouts River Valleys community who are seeing their civil rights and constitutional protections eroded before their eyes. As a friend and ally to all, as all Girl Scouts are, we cannot be silent on these decisions.
Our mission to “build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place” cannot be fulfilled with mere words but rather the actions we take to live our core values of inclusion, anti-racism, and diversity. We must use our voice to acknowledge what is happening, show up for our communities, and take action by advocating for the issues that impact and prevent Girl Scouts from realizing full autonomy over their environment, bodies, relationships, opportunities, and futures.
Know that Girls Scouts River Valleys will continue to share important messages related to current events that impact our members, youth, and communities, as well as the commitments and actions we are taking as a sister organization and a partner in the work of making our council a place where all Girl Scouts can thrive.
