Grades 4-12: Learn to turn with the American Association of Woodturners! The AAW Youth Committee is excited to welcome Girl Scouts to this hands-on woodturning class. The session will be taught by experienced teachers with mentors for each student on a jet mini lathe. Tools and safety equipment are provided. Attendees will come away with a wonderful, completed project. They will also get to tour a gallery and trade show exhibiting the creative work of woodturners from around the world, learn about the latest tools and equipment, and see some world-class artists in action!
Woodturning is the craft of using the wood lathe with hand-held tools to cut a shape that is symmetrical around an axis of rotation. Like the potter's wheel, the wood lathe is a simple mechanism which can generate a variety of forms limited only by the imagination of the artist or craftsperson. Learn more.
