*Virtual* Family Story Time Series: From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea by Kai Cheng Thom and Kai Yun Ching
Join us this summer for our three part family story time series! This series will discuss different elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an age-appropriate way. We’ll read a story together, discuss it, and answer questions from participants.
The series will be geared toward K –5, but any one is welcome to attend! An adult is encouraged to attend with their Girl Scout to support the conversation. Join us on zoom or tune in to Facebook Live for these free programs! Pre-registration not required.
From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea by Kai Cheng Thom and Kai Yun Ching
Join Miu Lan is not just any child, but one who can change into any shape they can imagine. The only problem is they can’t decide what to be: A boy or a girl? A bird or a fish? A flower or a shooting star? At school, though, they must endure inquisitive looks and difficult questions from the other children, and they have trouble finding friends who will accept them for who they are. But they find comfort in the loving arms of their mother, who always offers them the same loving refrain: “whatever you dream of / I believe you can be / from the stars in the sky to the fish in the sea.” We’ll explore themes of gender, identity, and celebration of differences and being yourself.
The Zoom link will be added to this event page closer to the event, check back here or on Girl Scouts River Valley’s Facebook page to join!
