Investing in the future of Girl Scouts has never been easier!
The Girl Scouts River Valleys Donor-Advised Fund program can help you create your philanthropic legacy now and invest in making the world a better place.
What is a Donor-Advised Fund?
A donor-advised fund is very similar to a health savings account. Money is deposited into an account that can grow in value, but instead of using the dollars to pay for health expenses, funds deposited into your donor-advised fund can be given out to charities—including Girl Scouts River Valleys.
The Girl Scouts River Valleys Donor-Advised Fund program allows you to make a large cash or complex gift to the fund and you receive an immediate charitable deduction. Then, over time, you recommend grants for Girl Scouts River Valleys and/or any nonprofit you are passionate about. It’s a win-win-win!
How the Girl Scouts River Valleys Donor-Advised Fund Works
The Girl Scouts River Valleys Donor-Advised Fund program is set up to help you accomplish your philanthropic goals and support the sustainability of Girl Scouts as well as other charities you care about. Each fund is split into two separate accounts with 30 percent being allocated to Girl Scouts River Valleys and up to 70 percent being allocated to additional nonprofit organizations. Unlike other donor-advised funds, the Girl Scouts River Valleys Donor-Advised Fund has a low minimum requirement of $10,000 to initially set up the fund.
In technical terms, when you open a donor-advised fund, or contribute to it, you receive an immediate income tax deduction, avoiding the capital gains tax on appreciated assets. Once the fund is set up, you can make grant recommendations any time. The ability to make grant recommendations will continue for your lifetime and then designate someone who can make the recommendations for the rest of their lives.
