All About the Girl Scout Bill

Its All About the Girl Scout Bill

As a Girl Scout supporter, you know Girl Scouts has over 100 years of experience giving girls what they need to become leaders in their community today and long into the future—and while  many things have changed, we remain committed to bringing this program to as many girls as possible. To help make this a reality, Girl Scouts River Valleys is bringing back legislation to the Minnesota State Legislature in 2021!

This legislation, otherwise known as The Girl Scout Bill, seeks state funding for the Girl Scouts ConnectZ program and other outreach programs at our sister councils in Minnesota. Our program, ConnectZ, is a program that brings free, high-quality leadership programming (college and career readiness and culturally responsive social emotional learning) to 3,000 underserved and under resourced girls in the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota.

During a time of social distancing and distance learning, we know that the need for connection and social emotional learning are even more pressing. Girl Scouts and the ConnectZ program are here for girls and communities to provide role models, connection with peers, and social emotional support.

Girl Scouts believes in supporting and investing in girls as they take on challenges and societal barriers. ConnectZ provides exposure and access to key areas where girls of color continue to face inequity:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)
  • Life Skills, such as confidence and role models of color in school settings
  • Outdoor Experiences and Skills, due to the financial limitations
  • Leadership and Entrepreneurship

Ask your legislator to support girls by passing The Girl Scout Bill!

The Girl Scout Bill needs support from legislators to move forward, and your legislator needs to hear that you want them to support it! You can reach them by email, phone, or schedule an in-person meeting. Girls can advocate to ensure all girls have access to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through the ConnectZ program and other outreach programs throughout the state. Check out this handy G.I.R.L.s in Session guide to help you speak up and advocate!
