Exchange SWAPS at the Great Girl Gathering @ MOA!

Posted on Wed, Jan 25 2012 8:37 am by Anna Connealy

Visit the Great Girl Hangout during the Great Girl Gathering @ MOA to meet other Girl Scouts and promote friendship through exchanging SWAPS. Represent your community by creating SWAPS that tell other Girl Scouts about you and your troop. Get creative, try not to spend a lot of money and consider making something from donated or recycled material.

The Great Girl Hangout, sponsored by Radio Disney, will be in West Market Square, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., during the Great Girl Gathering @ MOA, March 10–11. Stop by to connect with other girls, relax, unwind and listen to music. You can also work on your Legacy Badge!

What are SWAPS?

Girl Scouts describe these objects as: Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere (SWAPS). Review SWAPS history and basics to learn more.

About how many swaps should a troop make for this size event?

The Unity Service Unit (Balsam Lake, WI) are attending the GGG on Saturday only. We have approximately 50 members to the event. We are bringing 1,500 SWAPs to share - that works out to about 30 per member to share, which really isn't that much to trade. See you there! Lisa

We will be attending. A very small group - only 4 of our Girls are going to be there - but for both days.

How do you make the first swap shown? Is it just embroidery floss tied to a safety pin? Do the colors represent the GS law?

Vicky, I would bring as many as you'd like. It is completely up to you! Have fun!

Jennifer, we found this SWAP example on another council's website. You can view the information here: http://www.gsnc.org/resource_room/SWAP_girlscoutColors.asp

I've been to a number of National Conventions and I know that you can rarely have too many swaps! Be sure to spread the word about swaps or no one will bring any and then you really WILL have too many! DO be creative and try not to copy ideas posted here because if everyone does that then no one will have anything different to trade! You can do it!

Does anyone know if you can earn a patch at this event?
