Girl Scouts River Valleys

A new look for a new year

Posted on Thu, Jul 29 2010 2:17 pm by Linda Keene

Welcome to another great year of Girl Scouting across Minnesota and Wisconsin. With a new year, comes a fresh new look, new resources for girls and volunteers, and of course, a new website.

This is your website community.  Let’s make it great. Please share your Girl Scout stories, photos, news, and comments using our new blog and alumnae story features.  We want to hear from you.

I want to thank the hundreds of girls, volunteers, and staff members who participated in focus groups, surveys, and user testing to launch this great website.  This is only the beginning.  We will continue to work on the website and add extra features, resources, tools, photos, and more in the coming months.

Old and New site

The new website is much more intuitive and I have found things I didn't even know existed, (but were probably on the old site too)!

I don't like that you removed the photos of each camp. Please put them back! My daughter wanted to look at these photos before she goes to camp last week. Thank You.

The on-line Connections newsletter you emailed August 2 contains links that are all invalid. Please re-issue the newsletter with corrected links that correspond to the new website (launched just 3 days later) so leaders can refer to them without difficulty.

I was just checking out the new website, and it is pretty nice, but I also work at camp and have to agree with Laurel that I think the camp pictures should still stay on. Girls like to see where they're going to be staying. I'm also wondering where the reference pages for camp staff went? I know it's new and maybe still being worked on, but so far I like the old camp section better!

I am looking for facility availability. I found a link that says Facility Details & Availability but it does not include availability just facility notes, rates, and amenities.

I really don't like the new website. I came looking for events to do with my girls this year and events are listed alphabetically instead of by upcoming dates. Very hard to nagivate the events when you have to search this way! Too many different searches for events too, I like the old style that listed what they would learn versus having to search each individually. Not users friendly when you don't have the time to search endlessly.

I like the new webstie but have to agree with Chris on the events. I was going to register my girls for a class and I knew the date but could not think of the name. I had to go through all the classes to finally figure it out. I also like how you could search on the old site by putting your grade level in and it would bring up everything that grade could do. I would usually search this way and then print it for my girls and we looked at these at our planning meeting to see what we were going to do for the year. Now it is by level or multi level and then you have some that you can't particpate in because of the age.

Great website - like the change however, I would like to see the council activities being able to sort by location - that was nice and handy for planning out our year. I don't have time to sift through all age levels trying to find everything.

I know we all have to get used to change, but I think it is CRAZY that you canot search activies by DATE! Seriously, I make a HUGE attempt to VARY my activities with my Troop . . . but often we look for DATES that work for theTroop to select them - this will make it MUCH harder . . . please try to change this. I like the new website, but I also would have to agree on searching for activities. It would nice to have some search options available to use such as by location and date.

I dont like the new website for "Events". Its very time consuming and confusing. The Events listed by UP- COMING DATES was much more effective in planning troop and individual participation. Now you have to jump all over the place to see what is happening. Not good! Please try to change this. As, a troop leader I was frustrated today, just looking.
I know many of my parents won't bother even looking when they find this new format. They won't waste their time.
