On Thursday, April 18, more than 700 guests came together to honor eight inspiring women for their leadership, professional accomplishments and community contributions at our Women of Distinction event.

The $160,000 in donations will help to bring the power of the Girl Scout program to 10,600 girls, giving them the opportunity to grow as leaders and to become the next generation of women to change the world.

You can still be a part of the event by bidding on select items from our silent auction between Friday, April 26 and Friday, May 3.

In 1912, Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low sold her strand of pearls to launch the Girl Scout movement. In her honor, we are holding a silent auction prior to our Women of Distinction luncheon, and proceeds will provide financial assistance to Girl Scouts experiencing financial hardship.

Justice Wright’s Path to the Supreme Court

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton appointed Wilhelmina Wright to the Minnesota Supreme Court in September, making her the first African American woman to serve on the court.

During her career as an attorney, prosecutor and judge, Wright has received many awards: the Special Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Justice, the Myra Bradwell Award from Minnesota Women Lawyers and the Lena O. Smith Achievement Award from the Black Women Lawyers Network.

While these are all special recognitions, Wright says she cherishes the Women of Distinction Award she received in 2011 from Girl Scouts River Valleys the most.

The Women of Distinction Award honors women role models whose professional accomplishments, leadership and community contributions inspire girls to reach their highest potential. “The award really meant a lot,” Wright noted.

Wright first became a Girl Scout growing up in Norfolk, Virginia. Since moving to Minnesota, Wright has served on River Valleys’ board of directors, the Minnesota Judicial Council and the Minnesota Court Public Trust. She has also taught at colleges around the metro area and volunteered at Clare House.

Wright’s ability to manage a professional career, family and community outreach makes her an outstanding Women of Distinction honoree and a respected member of the Minnesota Supreme Court.

The fourth annual Girl Scouts River Valleys’ Women of Distinction luncheon will honor women in our community for their leadership, professional accomplishments and community contributions. These women are positive role models who inspire girls and exemplify the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Join us April 18, 2013, at the Minneapolis Hilton Hotel for this signature luncheon celebratory event and connect with 1,000 business, community and government leaders, as well as local Girl Scouts and their families.
