We had loads of girls out at the lake most of the afternoon, and several of them had luck catching fish. (We captured some of them with photos.) Every time someone thought they were about to catch something, you would hear all kinds of chatter and the girl’s anticipation would rise. When two girls from the same troop caught the largest fish pictured above, there was all kinds of cheering, giggles, and “good jobs.”

The other two girls pictured were the most patient girls I have ever seen at ice fishing. The one with the white coat and black snow pants sat for at least 30 minutes waiting for something to bite. Her will and drive to keep fishing paid off, and she caught two fish in a matter of three minutes.

All of the girls who came out had a great time.

The Rosewood Service Unit returned to Camp Northwoods for their annual Older Girl Winter Campshare.

This service unit older girl winter adventure has been a tradition for the past 20 plus years. The girls in grades 6-12 look forward to this weekend away from home each year. They love exploring the camp, creating fun, and making memories. The girls find the bus ride to and from camp a key part of the adventure. We make a stop in Spooner, Wisconsin so they can stretch their legs and shop for snacks. We seem to make a positive impression on the staff that work at the Economart. Many of the employees stop to talk to us about their Girl Scout camp memories at Camp Roundelay.

This year Rosewood Service Unit had 64 girls and 26 adults participate. It is neat to see the interaction between the various troops that participate and hear the stories of that get told of past adventures. We have established many neat traditions with this event – the talent show, recognizing graduating 12th graders, and preparing and eating dinner together as a large group. Some years we have a theme for the weekend. Last year we celebrated the Winter Olympics. Troops picked a country to represent, and the girl planning committee created unique Olympic events so everyone could participate.

This year’s theme was “Rosewood Returns in 2011.”

They had a fabulous time snowshoeing, sledding, animal tacking, building snowmen, and playing indoor games.

Shown above: the girls discover the great outdoors while looking for animal tracks on snowshoe, rest on a log while snowshoeing, and connect with each other in a tent.
