Troops Can Earn 20 Percent Off at Girl Scout Shops

All new 2014 troops and renewing troops with at least 50 percent of the girls and one leader participating in Early Registration will receive a 20 percent council shop coupon. The coupon will be sent to each (re)registering leader via email within two weeks of the troop registration processing and will be valid until September 30, 2013. Troops will receive the coupons with enough time to use them towards year-end celebrations and court of awards. Coupons can be applied to the entire purchase but can only be used by a troop once. They are only for in-store purchase at one of eight locations.

In order to make the troop planning process as easy as possible, River Valleys replaced Program Essentials with Planning Guides this year. The online, interactive guides help you customize your year as your girls become well-rounded leaders through Journey awards, badges and patches.

Each skill-building area offers a variety of ways to engage in learning and earning, from completing activity plans to attending special badge-earning events. Using your grade level’s online Planning Guide is the easiest and most efficient way to ensure your troop has a successful year. Each award includes links to activity plans, events, the Girl Scout Shop and other supporting resources.

While the Planning Guides make planning simpler, they still include the wide variety of activities and awards available through Girl Scouts. In order to help each girl make the most of her experience, we expect all River Valleys’ troops to use the Planning Guides to carry out their activities this year.

Check back in early 2013 for a new way to report on activities and earn pins.

• Hand drawn, not computer created
• Completed in either colored pencils or fine tipped markers
• Creative (you can use up to 9 different colors)
• Created on the patch submission form, printed, and sent to River Valleys via mail or color scanned copy

What is the Centennial Day of Service?

On October 13th, 2012 River Valleys’ Girl Scouts and volunteers will participate in the largest single-day clean up ever in River Valleys’ history! Together we are going to clean-up loose dirt and leaves from sewer grates, boat launches, city parks, parking lots around neighborhood schools, local stores, or any other kind of public space, by raking, sweeping, bagging and leaves that fall on paved surface and pile up.

This project will decrease the algae growth in local lakes, streams, rivers and ponds. Can you believe that on one day 54,000 people, girls and adults, will all be doing the same project all around our council in their local communities? River Valleys’ will create a lasting impact!

If you want to design the patch for this awesome project, the final submissions are due November 15, 2011. After this deadline, the top 20 designs will be posted online for everyone to vote on their favorite!
