Alumnae Creative Arts Day

Are you a Girl Scout alumna with skills in crafting activities like knitting, textile arts, painting, ceramics and beading? Come share your talents with other Girl Scout alumnae. Show your work to appreciative eyes or find tips for new craft projects. Supplies will be available, but please feel free to bring your own as well.

Rosewood Girl Scouts Make Quilts

Three troops from the Rosewood Service Unit of Girl Scouts made quilts this month for children in hospitals.

Some of the 17 fourth- through seventh-grade girls who participated in the event March 7 had never used a sewing machine before. They sewed blocks which consisted of a front, batting, and a back, and adult volunteers assembled the blocks into finished quilts.

The quilts will be donated to Sewing Angels, a nonprofit group that gives quilts and blankets to seriously ill or traumatized children in local hospitals.

The service unit, which includes schools from Roseville, Maplewood, and Falcon Heights, has been hosting the annual event to make quilts for charity for nine years.

Girl Scout Brownies Have Fun at Clay Daze

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 13433 trekked to Camp Lakamaga to attend Clay Daze in March. They had a great time making original creations from clay. The are looking forward to doing it again next year!

Girl Scout Troop 41000 from Golden Hill School in Rochester, Minn. show off their Gingerbread Houses. Sarah and Gina, at the far end of the table, are students at Rochester Community and Technical College, who are volunteering for service learning hours.

Girl Scout Troop 30478 Aids Their Feathered Friends

On March 16 the girls from Girl Scout Troop 30478 gathered with their fathers or grandfathers for a community service project. Each girl built two bird houses with the aid of either their father or grandfather. The girls were able to take one of the bird houses home to put in their backyard, and the other was donated to Marshall, Minn. Parks and Recreation. The bird houses that were donated will be placed in the many parks in the Marshall area for the community to enjoy.

On April 2 the troop gathered at the Parks and Recreation Board meeting to present the bird houses. The activity allowed the girls to learn many valuable lessons. They learned about pre-drilling holes, how to use an electric screw driver, and proper sanding. The best part was spending some quality one-on-one time with their fathers or grandfathers.
