Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Family Fundraising Campaign?

The Family Fundraising Campaign is an invitation for Girl Scout families to help underwrite the cost of providing the full Girl Scout leadership program to every girl member in River Valleys’ jurisdiction.  By supporting this campaign, you can tangibly express your belief in the value of Girl Scouting while making a huge impact on the lives of thousands of young women like your girl.

Our Girl Scout sells cookies. Isn’t that enough to help cover River Valleys’ expenses?

Although the Girl Scout Cookie Program Activity is an important source of funding, it covers only a portion of the annual operating budget. River Valleys must make up the rest from United Ways and corporations/foundations. The Family Fundraising Campaign is a direct gift to the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys, and a demonstration of your commitment over and above your support of the annual Cookie Program Activity.

.

I give my Girl Scout money for troop dues.
The troop dues are set by the troop and supports specific troop activities.  None of that money is used for the services provided by River Valleys.  On average it costs River Valleys around $300 annually to provide services to your Girl Scout, such as training troop leaders, communications, council-sponsored program events and activities, and ensuring clean, safe facilities.

I pay $10 for my child to be a Girl Scout. Isn’t that enough?
All of the $10 membership fee goes directly to GSUSA for national program development and activity insurance.

What is the value of Girl Scouts for me?

Your girl will have a sense of community and belonging to something bigger than herself. A place where she will become the person who tries to change the world for the better and will less likely turn to drugs or engage in dangerous behaviors.  You will see value in the Girl Scout program as you watch your girl discover positive skills, connect with her community, and take action to make her community a better place.

How can I support the Family Fundraising Campaign?

You can give in the following ways:

    1. Strive for 25 ($25, or 25% more than last year’s gift)! Because giving is a personal decision, any gift that is meaningful to you is appreciated and important in helping support girls.
    2. Make a lasting commitment on a budget. Sign up for the Family Fundraising Promise Club by making a pledge of at least $10 per month for one year.
    3. You can double your gift through corporate giving programs.  Please request a form from your employer.
    4. Give at the troop level with the envelope provided to you by your family fundraising troop chair or service unit annual giving coordinator.

    Did you know?

    1. The $10 registration fee does not stay in River Valleys, it goes directly to the Girl Scouts of the United States (GSUSA) to cover insurance and programming through GSUSA.
    2. The Girl Scout Cookie program and product sales only support 63 percent of the River Valleys operating budget.
    3. Troop dues do not support River Valleys, the money stays within the troop.

Please direct any questions to the fund development staff at famfundraising@girlscoutsrv.org.
