Lifeguard

Learn to prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. This course will include the First aid certificate and the CPR/AED for Lifeguards. There will be a written and practical test at the end of each course.

Lifeguard Certification

Required for: Many camp staff members and many volunteers.
Prerequisites:
  • Complete a 300 yard continuous swim followed by a 20 yard swim
  • Retrieve a 10lb object from 7-10 feet of water.
Duration: Two days
Cost: $140, includes the costs of certification and materials
Materials to Bring:
  • Water bottle
  • 1-2 swimsuits
  • 2-3 towels
  • Sunscreen
  • Comfortable clothes for classroom and in-between  swimming turns
  • Completed Health History Form
When to Complete: Before beginning work in camp staff positions requiring lifeguard certifications.
How often to Complete: Every three years

Weather Note:

This class will be held regardless of weather. Come prepared for rain, shine, warmth or cold. Schedules may be adjusted due to weather.

Ways to Complete:

Lifeguard Challenge/Renew Re-Certification

Participants must have received their Lifeguard certification within the last 4 years. In order to challenge out, participants will need to bring their current or past Lifeguard certification card. There will be no review or coaching, and participants will need to complete the practical and written tests.

Required for: Many camp staff members.
Prerequisites: Completion of Lifeguard Certification within the past 4 years.
Duration: Depends on number of participants
Cost: $30.00, includes the costs of certification and materials
Materials to Bring:
  • A swimsuit
  • 1-2 towels
  • Proof of past certification
When to Complete: Before beginning work in camp staff positions requiring lifeguard certifications.
How often to Complete: Every four years

Ways to Complete:

CPR/AED Challenge/Review for Lifeguards

This course is for the lifeguard who’s CPR/AED for lifeguards certification has expired by less than a year. No coaching is given, and participants must complete a practical and written test.

Lifeguards who want to keep their lifeguard certification valid will need to take this course or a full class for CPR/AED for lifeguards. The CPR/AED certification is valid for one year from completion.

Required for: Many camp staff members.
Prerequisites: Lifeguard Certification that expired no more than one year ago.
Duration: Three hours, or when finished with testing
Cost: $30.00, includes the costs of certification and materials
Materials to Bring:
  • A swimsuit
  • 1-2 towels
  • Comfortable clothes for in-between swimming turns
  • Proof of past certification
