Women of Distinction

The Women of Distinction luncheon embodies the Girl Scout spirit, providing an opportunity to support girl empowering programs and connecting with a network of passionate women leaders.

2016 Women of Distinction Highlights

Girl Scouts Rivers Valleys welcomed more than 600 passionate guests on Thursday, April 7, 2016 to celebrate five women whose professional accomplishments make them positive role models who inspire girls and women to achieve their goals and dreams. Guests came together to connect, engage in the jewelry silent auction, and experience stories of the transforming power of Girl Scouts shared by girls and honorees a like.

The event raised more than $215,000 through philanthropic gifts and sponsorships. Proceeds from the event will ensure that over 3,000 girls in Girl Scouts ConnectZ can participate at no cost to their families. ConnectZ provides an all-girl, culturally-responsive leadership program to girls who would otherwise not have access to the Girl Scout program. It helps girls learn, grow, and build skills for a successful future.

We were thrilled to welcome back Linda B. Keene, the first CEO of Girl Scouts River Valleys. Keene’s most pressing concern throughout her tenure was the need to serve more girls, particularly those who often do not have opportunities to benefit from enrichment activities. Girl Scouts ConnectZ, established in 2011, rose from this mission.

Emcee and best-selling author, Roxane Battle, shared the ConnectZ story, empowering guests to join in Sisterhood of Girl Scouts. “Strength, Sisterhood, Success” was a powerful message as ConnectZ girls shared inspiring stories about the life changing opportunities Girl Scouts provides for all girls. Speakers included Sarah Lissick, Women of Distinction Chair, Tish Bolger, CEO, Girl Scouts River Valleys, and Liana Tessum, Director of Community Partnership, Girl Scouts River Valleys.
