Are You Right For Camp?
Working at one of River Valleys Girl Scout camps is a unique experience that will have a positive impact on you for the rest of your life – are you ready?
Are You Friendly?
River Valleys expects camp staff to take a friendly attitude toward girls, parents, and other staff. We like to see you smile and be friendly to everyone that you meet, get to know others, and most
importantly, make the girls who are attending camp feel welcomed with a strong sense of belonging.
Can You Stay Calm and Friendly Under Pressure?
Imagine eight girls who all want your attention at once. Camp life is non-stop activity all day and night. Will you be able to keep up?
Are You Good at Switching Gears?
Your day is planned, but poor weather rolls in and you need to change plans. Can you adjust your plans with a smile? All staff need to be ready and eager to help with all areas of camp at
Are You Willing to Learn New Things?
Parents look to us to be camp experts! Are you willing to learn about leading groups of girls and keeping them safe and happy? Are you willing to continue your personal growth throughout the
entire summer, making any adjustments as needed?
Are You Willing to Follow a Grooming and Dress Code?
It is camp, yes, but we still need to look neat and professional at all times. This is not always easy when doing your laundry seems like it takes hours and the space to store your clothing is very limited. We do expect you to dress appropriately at all times and set a good example for other camp staff members and campers.
Can You Commit to a Schedule and Work the Entire Summer?
When we hire you, we count on you to be at camp from the start of the summer all the way through to the end. We do try and accommodate time off on a first-come, first-served basis for
events you need such as for weddings or other family functions, but when we need you, we really need you! We rely on you to make a commitment for the entire summer.
Are You a Team Player?
You will be living in small spaces and working with the same people all summer. Sometimes you may be tired or under stress; no matter what is going on, your co-workers and your campers
will count on you to be there for them 100% of the time.
Do You Like Working Outdoors?
Generally we have modern facilities; however you will be regularly exposed to natural allergens, insects, animals, weather, etc.
Do You Pay Attention to the Little Things?
Are you able to put your own needs aside to meet those of others throughout the summer?
It doesn’t take much to make a BIG difference at camp – a warm smile to a girl, a friendly hello to another staff person, a chat with someone who is sitting alone, a second to pick up a piece of
litter, or a two minute task to even take the garbage out for the fifth time. These simple acts create the type of positive and inviting culture and environment we strive to offer all campers.
Nice, little touches do make a difference in someone’s day, and they go a long way in making camp a wonderful place to work and live.
Are You Described as “a Glass Half Full” Person?
You know the kind of person we are referring to, right? No matter what else is going on, this person is always smiling, always sees the cup half full, and doesn’t let a bad day affect those
around her/him. We strive to give all employees the experience of working with great people like this… so we can all have fun together.
Are You Ready to Put the Girl Scout Promise, Law, and Mission into Practice in Your Daily Life at Camp?
The Girl Scout Promise and Law are shared by every member of Girl Scouts, and all staff will need to become members. The Girl Scout Promise is the way Girl Scouts agree to act every day
toward one another and other people, and the Law outlines a way to act towards one another and the world.
