Camp Staff Positions Available
Elk River/Northwoods (ER/NW), Sanderson/Singing Hills (SA/SH), Lakamaga (LAK)

  • All camps run from June 6 – August 29
  • All staff members must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the camp season and live on-site unless otherwise noted.
  • Daily rates are based upon the staff member’s individual certifications and experience related to the position.
  • Compensation also includes room and board and workers compensation.

Counselors $40 - $50/day
Program Counselor will have an individual group of 8-10 girls that they will be in charge of for the week or two weeks that they are at camp. Counselors will have a general working knowledge of all activities, and will help the girls determining their schedule for the time they are at camp. Counselors are the ones who will be in charge of getting their girls up in the morning, ensuring that they are eating at each meal, utilizing homesickness techniques to ensure the girls are having fun and participating in a variety of camp activities throughout the day. Counselors can have a variety of skills and the ability to learn new skills in specialized areas.

Riding Counselor will lead a similar day to a program counselor, except their schedule will be based around horses They will help to lead girls in the riding program, assist in teaching horse lessons to girls in the program and assist the riding specialists to ensure the care of the horses and upkeep of the barn. Riding Counselors should have some background in horse care and riding ability and they will also get to utilize and learn new skills from a variety of other camp programs.

Specialists $45 - $65/day
Specialists further the mission of the camp programs through the development and delivery of activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ ages and abilities. They will have an in depth knowledge in the area that they are applying for with the ability and passion to teach it to girls. Specialists will provide support to counselors in living units and throughout the day as needed.

 

Art Specialist will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity onto the camp world! If you find endless possibilities for the use of paper, string, color and a wooden peg – this could be the position for you. Art projects are a favorite at camp and a creative specialist will ensure that girls get the opportunities to express themselves with a variety of mediums. With the opportunity for clay modeling at all camps and a wheel and kiln at Camp Lakamaga, applicants should have experience in a wide range of areas, or the ability to learn. ER/NW, SA/SH, LAK

 

Boating Specialist will be able to teach girls the basics in working with sailboats, canoes, rowboats, paddleboats, and kayaks on the lakes at camp. Applicants must be lifeguard certified and have small craft safety. (Courses are available prior to staff training if not already certified.)

Outdoor Activity Specialist will have a wild love for the outdoors and a passion to lead activities such as outdoor cooking, fire building, hiking, and other outdoor skills. They will plan and assist on overnights at camp, “Leave No Trace,” as well as environmental and nature programs.  Applicants must have Leave No Trace certification. (Training is available prior to staff training.)

Program Specialist will have flexibility to help out in all areas of camp! Whether it be leading a variety of different programs, covering for counselors on time off, helping at the waterfront, or planning a campfire among many others. Applicants must be trained to lead archery and the adventure course (training can be provided during staff training) and be lifeguard certified. (Lifeguard certification is available prior to staff training.)

Riding Specialist will spend most of their day at the barn to supporting riding counselors in their delivery of horse lessons. They will assist in the development and delivery of a horseback riding program that is safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ ages and abilities. Applicants will need to have an in depth knowledge of horse care and the ability to teach horse lessons from beginners through to higher levels that may complete an off-site horse three day horse trip.

Sports and Fitness Specialist she shoots – she scores! If you are a sports enthusiast with a solid understanding of a variety of sports, nutrition, and fitness activities then this is the job for you. You will teach girls how to exercise and safely participate in sports, stress the importance of a warm up and a cool down, and lead a variety of drills in sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball,  as well as biking skills. You will have the ability to receive training in archery and the adventure course during staff training. Must be lifeguard certified. (Lifeguard certification is available prior to staff training.)

Trip Specialist will spend the first half of the summer travelling to each camp to support and lead a variety of trip dabbler programs to get girls excited about participating in trips. You will use your extensive skills in outdoor cooking, camping, orienteering and map reading, hiking, nature and “Leave No Trace” principles to educate girls and other staff in a variety of outdoor skills. Once you move up to Camp Northwoods you will be leading off site trips for up to 18 days in a variety of areas. Applicants must have experience in leading trips or extensive participation on trips as well as skills in canoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking. Applicants must also be lifeguard certified. (Lifeguard training is available prior to staff training.)

Waterfront Specialist will enjoy the majority of their camp days down at our beautiful lakes. Safety is the number one priority at the waterfront as you educate girls in boating, fishing and water safety as well as supervise along with other lifeguards during open swim sessions. You must be able to act calmly and efficiently in an emergency and practice emergency drills and lifeguarding scenarios throughout the summer. Camp Lakamaga lifeguards will also get the opportunity to lifeguard at the Camp Rolling Ridges swimming pool to support a Day Camp program. Applicants must be lifeguard certified (Courses are available prior to camp training)

Kitchen Positions $12 – $16/hour

Food Service Director will direct the overall food service operation of the camp for up to 300 participants at any one time. This includes adequate stock rotation and food purchasing, food preparation, following a pre-determined menu to ensure balanced nutrition, following due diligence to any dietary restrictions and food allergies, and keeping a safe and sanitary kitchen environment. You will also be supervising and directing any staff working in the kitchen. Serv Safe certification and documented food service experience necessary.

Assistant Cook is under the direction of the food service director, you will prepare and serve high quality meals for up to 300 participants at any one time. You must be able to work well as a members of a team to prepare nutritional and camper-friendly meals, assist with clean-up and inventory, and ensure all health and safety standards are met.  You must have documented experience in food preparation and/or cooking.

Support Assistants

Kitchen/Cleaning Assistant $32-$37/day.

You will assist the cooks in preparing and serving nutritious meals and in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area. Responsibilities also include maintaining cleanliness throughout camps in bathrooms, dining hall areas, and buildings.

Maintenance/Cleaning assistant $8-$10/hour.

As a maintenance and cleaning assistant you will work with the maintenance staff to ensure that high cleanliness and safety standards are met throughout camp. You will respond to the needs of camp to fix equipment as needed and keep facilities in good working order.

 

Manager and Director Positions $55 – $80/day
Managers and directors further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of program activities and events.  Design and deliver program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities.  Assist in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the camp director include supervising, mentoring, and supporting staff to provide the highest quality experience for all campers. Directors work as a member of the leadership team to create and implement all camp activities, events, and safety procedures.  Previous resident camp experience required as well as good time management skills to help manage schedules of yourselves and others during a busy camp season. Applicants must be highly organized with a good attention for detail. 

 

Business Manager will oversee the business operation of the camp during the summer, including promoting and maximizing profit in the camp store, balancing and managing petty cash accounts, and following standard operating procedures to maintain accurate financial records. Applicants will also be involved in other aspects of the daily operation of camp and general office administration including answering phones, responding to e-mails, etc. Applicants must have very high levels of organizational skills.

Riding Director will implement deliver and oversee lesson plans for a developing western horseback riding program. Resident campers will arrive and be given a horse skills assessment and then placed into appropriate levels by the riding director and specialists for lessons throughout the week. Weekend programs will also be run with up to 100 participants who will learn basic horse skills and be given an opportunity to ride. Responsibilities also include direct care of the horse herd, management of all riding equipment and stable, barn, and riding areas, as well as supervision and support of riding counselors and specialists. CHA or HAS certification highly desired.

Health Care Director will oversee the health and safety of all campers and staff.  You will be responsible for performing health screenings of all incoming campers and staff, dispensing medications, and maintaining accurate health logs and records as legal documents. You will also perform first aid as necessary and appropriate, respond to emergencies, and maintain contact with the camp physician and general health and safety throughout camp.  First aid and CPR certification are minimum requirements.  RNs preferred.  EMT and first responders accepted.

Program Director will be instrumental in overseeing all aspects of program at camp. Through helping to develop and monitor curriculum, providing ongoing training and support to staff and taking on a strong leadership role, you will ensure that there is consistency and quality in all areas of program throughout the week of resident camp and at the weekend on weekend programs. Applicants must have a strong program background and the ability to lead a variety of activities and train others to do so. Archery and adventure course training will be given and applicants must be Lifeguard certified. (Lifeguard course is available prior to staff training.)

Trip Director will be highly organized with good attention to detail when coordinating all logistics for on and off-site trip programs. You will begin the summer travelling to all camps providing support to trip specialists who are delivering a variety of on-site trip programs. When up at Camp Northwoods you will be in charge of the logistics in the trip department ensuring trips have the correct food and gear, coordinating a driving schedule to take out and collect trips, organizing the appropriate permits and reserving campsites as appropriate, and working with trip specialists to develop itineraries for the trips. You will also be in charge of purchasing adequate quantities of food for trips and on site cook outs and overseeing general outdoor education at camp. Applicants Must have previous trip experience, preferably in a resident camp setting.

Waterfront Director will oversee one of the busiest areas at camp. Safety is the top priority of all staff, campers and participants at the waterfront. You will conduct regular in service training for lifeguards and practice conducting waterfront emergency drills on a regular basis. You will supervise waterfront specialists and lifeguards at the waterfront to ensure safety is upheld and that girls receive fun and educational program time. Good organizational skills necessary to schedule guards throughout different areas to manage multiple user groups, and even at other camps. Applicants must have previous waterfront experience and skills as well as current Lifeguard certification. (Lifeguard certification is available prior to staff training.)

Assistant Camp Director will empower, mentor, and support other staff in all areas around camp. Responsibilities include supervising staff and overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day running of camp including developing and implementing curriculum and strong program design, flexibility and adaptability to react to the high pace of camp, and the ability to fill in for camp director.
