IMPORTANT NEWS
Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys is committed to keeping our council financially healthy while providing all girls with a premier Girl Scout Leadership Experience. During this challenging economic climate, River Valleys has been working closely with our volunteer board of directors, council leadership, and staff to carefully review fiscal budgets and reduce additional expenditures wherever possible.
River Valleys is fortunate to have several top notch facilities, including several different resident camps. River Valleys has carefully analyzed our current capacity, staffing, and operational costs at all camps, and has made the difficult decision to suspend Girl Scout programs this summer at Camp Sanderson near Spicer, Minn. and Camp Greenwood, in Buffalo, Minn. From May 18-September 7, Camps Greenwood and Sanderson will not be available for use. This proactive step will help reduce expenses while enabling us to provide hundreds of summer camp sessions at the other River Valleys’ facilities for girls and their families.
Girl Scout camp is a great summer experience for all girls. The decision to suspend the Girl Scout program at two of our camp properties does not impact our ability to serve girls with amazing outdoor programming. Girl Scout camp is a great value for families and girls can choose from hundreds of camp sessions ranging from horses, canoeing, arts, and crafts to sports, adventure courses, kayaking, and outdoor wilderness trips to fit their different needs and interests. CAMP GREENWOOD
Located near Buffalo, Minn., Camp Greenwood offers girls going into grades 1 through 12 a chance to explore its 56 acres – making it big enough to feel like an adventure but small enough to feel like home. Waterfront programs are the most popular activities at camp. Lake Charlotte is great for swimming and pontoon rides while Moore Lake is where girls canoe, kayak, and row boats. Teen girls, be sure to check out the Adventure Sessions in canoeing, biking, backpacking, climbing, and sea kayaking!
Girls sleep in cozy cabins on bunk beds with other girls in their grade group. All cabins have ceiling fans and electricity. Counselors sleep in the cabins with younger girls. Modern shower houses and bathrooms are located near all the living units. Nutritious and kid-friendly meals are served family style in the dining hall. Most girls have the chance to cook-out a over a campfire or enjoy lunch “Fun-On-The-Run” style by taking their meal with them on a hike or a pontoon ride. High energy snacks are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening. |
