Delegates

Delegates and alternate delegates serve as the primary communication link between area Girl Scout members, community networks and River Valleys’ Board of Directors, and they elect our local representatives and national council delegates.

Delegate Dialogues

River Valleys holds delegate dialogues quarterly to bring delegates together with the council membership. Delegates speak with our community on strategic issues and hear membership’s input on the future of our council. Find events in your area and register to attend to make your voice heard.

Elections

Elections should be held between April and September for delegate positions for the following year. Submit information for 2014 delegates to delegates@girlscoutsrv.org by September 15, 2013. To determine the number of delegates/alternates allowed per service unit, refer to the Delegate Matrix.

All girl and adult delegates need to complete their delegate information form as soon as possible.

Training

River Valleys requires all delegates and alternates complete training before performing their duties at the Annual Meeting. Delegate self-study training completed between January 2008 and January 2013 completes the training requirement for returning delegates.

If you have not completed your delegate training, please complete it using River Valleys’ online learning center:

1. Download Instructions for Using River Valleys’ Online Learning Center. Once registered, you may take training at your own pace and time.
2. Register for and complete online training. When you have completed training, your completion will be recorded in River Valleys’ database.
3. A paper self-study is available for those without Internet access. Email Delegates@girlscoutsrv.org or call 800-845-0787.

Annual Meeting

Before our Annual Meeting in January 2013, delegates and council members were invited to attend an Open Space Summit on the theme “Creating an Exciting Future for the River Valleys Community.”

The Open Space Summit Book of Proceedings contains the transcribed notes of each group that met during the summit, and includes an introduction page talks about the importance of the groups to continue the work started at the summit.

National Delegates

National delegates represent River Valleys and cast votes at the Girl Scouts of the USA National Convention, held every three years. The next National Convention will be held in the fall of 2014. Send questions to RVBoard@girlscoutsrv.org.
