Launching into the New Girl Scout Year

Last weekend, over 200 service unit team volunteers attended our Fall Launch – an event to launch into the new Girl Scout year in style.

We were thrilled that so many of our volunteers could join us – people traveled from the farthest reaches of our council, including St. James, Fairmont, Winnebago, Winona, and even Estherville, Iowa! The festivities kicked off on Friday evening with a volunteer-led social at our St. Paul Service Center, where volunteers enjoyed a potluck dinner, networking, and games late into the night.

On Saturday, the day began with learning sessions hosted by River Valleys staff that covered topics from cookie season previews to how to best support new troops and troop leaders. Then we boarded paddleboats and took a ride on the Mississippi, where volunteers could connect with staff and with one another. The event ended in true Girl Scout style – with a friendship circle!

We loved this feedback from a volunteer about the event: “What did I like? What didn’t I like?!? Being with all my sister Girl Scouts, having fun, making new memories, getting psyched up for the new year, and sharing SWAPS.”

Thanks to all of the Service Unit volunteers who joined us. We’re so appreciative of all the work you do and we’re looking forward to a great year!
