Last month, over 150 Girl Scouts attended the Leadership and Lay Ups event, hosted by Girl Scouts River Valleys and the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx Basketball Academy. The girls, whose program levels ranged from Daisies to Ambassadors, participated in a variety of activities which focused on basketball and leadership skills, on and off the court.
Girl Scouts enjoyed the basketball clinic led by Coach Brown, a former U of M Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, where they practiced their basketball skills through drills and races. They also were able to meet three women who have careers in basketball, working for either the Timberwolves or the Lynx, during the leadership panel portion of the event. Girls were able to ask these women about their experiences working in their fields.
Prior to watching the Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Utah Jazz at Target Center, the girls made signs to cheer on their favorite players, and a handful of girls spotted Kevin Garnett squeeze in a workout before warm-ups.
