Nearly 300 Girl Scouts – volunteers, leaders, girls, delegates, board members, and staff – attended the 2016 Girl Scouts River Valleys Annual Meeting in Rosemount, Minnesota on January 30.
During the morning at the Adult Summit, Dr. Dale Blyth led an impactful lecture on youth development, while girl members made progress on the development of the Girl Leadership Board at the Girl Summit, led by Second Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors, Beth Voermans.
Volunteer awards highlighted the luncheon, which concluded with a speech on the importance and impact of volunteerism by Chief Operating Officer, Jen Thorson.
During the business meeting, members heard reports from: Norma Porter, Treasurer; Jeff Redmon, Board Development Chair; and outgoing Board Chair, Amy Kroll. Tish Bolger, Chief Executive Officer, reported on accomplishments and progress in 2015 and challenges and opportunities in 2016.
Voting members elected and welcomed the new slate of Board of Directors, including new Board Chair, Michele Azar, Vice President, Ship from Store, Multichannel Fulfillment & Growth for Best Buy Co., Inc. Azar began as a Girl Scout at age five, and as an adult lead her two daughters’ troops. She brings extensive professional experience and an entrepreneurial and philanthropic spirit to her new role with the Girl Scouts River Valleys Board of Directors.
