In Girl Scouts, girls have fun with a purpose—and Troop 55640 did just that on Monday, December 1, when they took a field trip to A Taste of Love Bakery.
The girls were able to work on earning their Business Owner badge, while throwing a birthday party. It wasn’t a sister Girl Scout they were celebrating; the party was for Samoas’ 40th birthday!
With Birthday in a Box kits in hand, the girls decorated party hats, played birthday games, and even made Samoas cupcakes.
While at the bakery, the girls were able to learn first hand from a small business owner. The girls discovered that a lot more goes into owning a bakery than just knowing how to make delicious cakes and desserts; you also have to find a space for your business, purchase equipment, manage a budget, and find staff support.
Being in the celebration mood, Troop 55640 also took this opportunity to brainstorm ways they could do something to make the world a better place. Together they decided to make a goal of assembling 40 birthday in a bag kits to be delivered to a food shelf.
The plan is for the kits to be distributed to families who have a child celebrating a birthday but may not have the means to purchase some of the extras to make the day special such as birthday candles, party hats, crayons, and party favors.
The girls were able to have hands-on fun, all while learning, and planning to make a difference in their community.
There’s still time to throw your own party for Samoas’ 40th! Girl Scouts around the country will be celebrating on Saturday, January 10, but you can pick a day that works best for your troop, just like Troop 55640 did.
Troops and service units can order a Birthday in a Box kit to help make planning a breeze. This celebration is a great way to have some fun at a troop meeting, while kicking off the cookie season.
