Camp Whispering Hills Storm Damage Update

blog-whispering-hills-storm-damageSince the major storm in late June, Girl Scouts River Valleys has been collaborating with contractors, engineers and insurance technical specialists to assess the significant damage to Camp Whispering Hills in Houston County. You can view this map to see an overview of the damage.

In order to complete all the work needed to make Camp Whispering Hills safe for girls again, River Valleys had to close the camp for the summer. We have reassigned Camp Whispering Hills staff to our sister camps and have offered similar camp program experiences at these camps to girls that were signed up for activities at Camp Whispering Hills.

In true Girl Scout spirit, the girls and families affected by all of this have been supportive of the change and we thank them for embracing the opportunity to explore our other camps.

Please note: Due to safety issues, we are unable to accept volunteers for cleanup of Camp Whispering Hills at this time. If an opportunity does become available to recruit volunteers, we will reach out through our website and social media.

I am so sorry to hear of the damage. My troop visited Whispering Hills for the first time in April, and the girls loved it.
