Whether you’re a troop leader just beginning your Girl Scout journey, or an experienced troop leader wanting to refresh your knowledge of the National Program Portfolio, there’s something for everyone to learn in Leadership Essentials. Here’s what participants are saying:
“I learned how to get parent support and how to be a better leader. I am not feeling so overwhelmed and much more capable of being a better leader. Thank you, this was very useful to me.”
“I wish I would have taken this course earlier and used the Journey books more regularly.”
“I learned: ‘Put your hands in your pockets and let the girls lead – Discover, Connect, Take Action.’”
Leadership Essentials is a requirement for new troop leaders within four months of being appointed to their position. This three-hour interactive training session includes information on: managing a troop of girls, The Girl Scout Leadership Experience, GSUSA program materials such as journeys, and the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting, and River Valleys’ resources.
It can be completed by registering for and attending a facilitated session offered throughout River Valleys’ jurisdiction or completing Leadership Essentials Online and the accompanying River Valleys’ Add-On PDF. There is also a self study form available for those who wish to complete the session independently but may not have high speed Internet access. If you have any questions about Leadership Essentials or other training sessions email firstname.lastname@example.org.
